Satanic Panic

Critics Consensus

It isn't terribly devilish or particularly pulse-quickening, but Satanic Panic remains an entertaining midnight movie that forgiving genre enthusiasts will enjoy.

Movie Info

Sam's first day as a pizza delivery driver is not going according to plan. At the end of a long day and not enough tips, her last delivery turns out to be for a group of Satanists looking for someone to sacrifice. Now in a fight for her life, Sam must fend off witches, evil spells and demonic creatures, all while trying to keep her body -- and soul -- intact. Starring Hayley Griffith ("The Loudest Voice"), Ruby Modine (Happy Death Day franchise), Jerry O'Connell ("Billions") and Rebecca Romijn (X-Men franchise), Satanic Panic is "an absolutely entertaining horror film that will satisfy any viewer's need for monsters, mayhem and...jokes" (Robert Saucedo, Birth.Movies.Death).

  • It won't convert any non-believers, but this horror comedy is self-aware enough to deliver the right mixture of laughs, gross-outs and demon-tinged ridiculousness to please its intended audience of gorehounds and genre geeks.

  • The feature lacks the deft touch required to make disembowelments and virgin sacrifices actually seem amusing, although gore-hounds will certainly get their fill.

  • It doesn't push any envelopes, and pushing envelopes is what it's all about.

    Sep 6, 2019 | Rating: 2/4 | Full Review…
  • Ultimately though, "Satanic Panic" just has its handful of cleverly gory scenes and its general enthusiasm for classic horror to recommend it. It falls just devilishly short of being good.

    Sep 5, 2019 | Full Review…
  • The movie stands out from contemporary horror for its lack of pretension and its simple commitment to inventing ways for pretty people to get slaughtered.

  • It's a film that never tries to be anything more than an entertaining lark, and only fitfully succeeds at that.

Full disclosure, I only watched Satanic Panic because I knew Clarke Wolfe was in it, and I wanted to support her work. Anyway, it turns out that she's only in about 9 seconds of this movie, so if that was all it had to offer, I would've felt very ripped off. Fortunately! That was not even close to the case. The partnership between Hayley Griffith's and Ruby Modine's characters only really takes off once the movie is already half-way done, but once it does it absolutely becomes the driving force behind Satanic Panic, to its massive benefit.
