Amanda G @RT58587530 Aug 22 An important perspective, but misses the true, widespread scale of Helene While Scars on the Mountain captures a raw look at Yancey County, it falls short of telling the full story of Hurricane Helene. As a local whose husband served as a first responder, and whose loved ones lost their entire homes and everything they owned, I know firsthand that the devastation extended far beyond one area. My sister watched people wash down the river in Swannanoa, and entire communities like Lake Lure were completely altered or gone. Even now, driving down our roads, the visible scars of this tragedy are everywhere. Yancey County has every right to tell their story, but a documentary aiming to truly capture Helene must acknowledge the full scope of the disaster and the collective trauma, heroism, and survival of all the communities affected. It does a great job highlighting people’s stories See more Faiz S @RT19049740 Aug 15 *Scars on the Mountain* is one of those movies that feels like more than just something you watch—it’s something you sit with afterward. The story does a great job of showing how struggle can leave lasting scars, while also showing the strength it takes to keep moving forward. What I liked most is that it doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to force an emotional reaction. The characters, the atmosphere, and the way the story unfolds make the emotions feel natural. There are moments that make you think about what people go through, what they’re willing to sacrifice, and how difficult it can be to overcome the things that have shaped them. Definitely a movie I’d recommend if you’re looking for something meaningful rather than just another film to pass the time. Some movies entertain you for a couple of hours, while others actually stay in your head afterward. *Scars on the Mountain* felt like the latter for me. See more John E @RT57290436 Aug 14 Scars on the Mountain is a beautifully edited and composed film showcasing true human tragedy and resilience. It takes a deeply human and personal approach to an event that has been strained of its core humanity through repeated media exposure. Most of all, it is a touching ode to a class of people who deserve our respect and compassion. I look forward to more from the creative team behind this work. A must see See more Janet W @JBWilliams24 Aug 10 This documentary was one that hit very "close to home" for me. I live in the eastern part of North Carolina and we vacation yearly in the beautiful North Carolina mountains…it is what I call my "Happy Place". My most recent favorite cabin rental was actually on Cat Tail Creek in Burnsville NC and it hit hard when I saw the devastation Helene took to that area. The producers were spot on with capturing the essence of the sense of community and willingness to help your neighbors in a time of need. This documentary takes you on an emotional journey for sure. We just got back from a week long stay about 20 minutes from Burnsville and we could see much of Helene’s mark left on creek beds and rivers where we were. These people in Yancey county are #ncmountainstrong and just by watching this will help contribute to the healing of that county. See more Read all reviews
