Grim war film has interesting John Ford aspects that are sunk by depressing war-portrait. Go to Full Review

08/25/2008 It is incredibly obvious right from the get go this is a very early talkie. I think this interferes with Ford’s mise en scene to the point where the film’s effectiveness is severely diminished. For a better Ford Navy picture see his shorts from the Battle of Midway and other WWII documentary footage and/or They Were Expendable. Story, execution, and performance are all lacking here. See more 02/04/2008 Pretty dull melodramatic war picture. See more 01/15/2008 Överraskande bra tidig ljudfilm om ubåtsstrider under första världskriget. Miljöerna känns väldigt äkta (inte mycket kan vara gjort i ateljé). Rätt stolpigt skådespeleri, men det stör mindre än man skulle kunna tro. See more Read all reviews
