Second Act has a more surprising plot strand that gives the entire thing backbone. Yes, it has its share of cringe and cheesy dialogue, but for the most part this really is perfectly serviceable fare for a distracting January evening out.

In general, Second Act is a film that could have gone directly to television. [Full Review in Spanish]

[Second Act] entertains, but nothing more. [Full review in Spanish]

Second Act is an amiable piece of fluff that succeeds due to its charismatic cast, warm sense of storytelling, likable characters and some minor surprises in its adornment of the genre formula. A good effort from both Lopez and Segal.

Perhaps the film is a parable about how difficult having it all can be, especially for women. It does make a very pertinent point.

Jennifer Lopez plays a middle-aged woman trying to break out of her dull life, a storyline that may sound like it has potential but, in this case, goes nowhere.

A functional comedy that doesn't ask for more from its cast or the audience. [Full Review in Spanish]

The cast is good enough -- if not to pull it off, at least to make it go down painlessly. Charlyne Yi supplies fun as half-phobic, half-kinky office drone.

Individually, scene to scene, Second Act has its highlights. But as a whole, the film simultaneously works and doesn't work - the epitome of a mixed bag.

Lopez knocks her well-rounded role out of the park, but "Second Act" unfortunately has a number of gaping plot holes and logical lapses that render it a bit second-rate.

Ironically, it is in the second act of Second Act where things start to fall apart and incredulity becomes the order of the day.

Second Act transits through all of the aspects of a soap opera and pretends to be a film. [Full Review in Spanish]

Stick with Second Act for its smart reframing of a city Cinderella story that retains its sense of humour.

Didn't fluffy-minded workplace rom-coms lose their luster in the late 1980's? Another Jennifer Lopez marshmallow vehicle...Contrived, patchy and meandering, Second Act cannot solve the lingering mystery behind J Lo's penchant for queasy comedy romances
