Individually, scene to scene, Second Act has its highlights. But as a whole, the film simultaneously works and doesn't work - the epitome of a mixed bag.

For fans of Jennifer Lopez fans and/or those looking for an "okay" tear jerker, Second Act is perfectly respectable entertainment. Alas the inherent messiness makes this one skippable for everyone else.

Second Act should invite a script-burning party.

This is stuff you've seen and heard before. If you really want to see and hear it again, I'm sure you can get it from a Redbox in a couple of months.

Ironically, it is in the second act of Second Act where things start to fall apart and incredulity becomes the order of the day.

Second Act has some promising moments but the comedy starring Jennifer Lopez falls into cliche-filled traps that are otherwise disappointing.

Through each storyline pivot, the focus is lost, and it never reclaims any footing it may have had in the first place.

There are lots of very obvious plot points, that you know where everything is going to play out, but you kind of go along with it because we're comfortable seeing her in this role.

Second Act never becomes unwatchable or even all that annoying, it's a shame that the creative powers that be didn't have enough faith in their admittedly slight, but strongly realized premise

Second Act transits through all of the aspects of a soap opera and pretends to be a film. [Full Review in Spanish]

It seems at times that it's not very difficult to deceive big companies' Human Resources offices. [Full review in Spanish]

Jennifer Lopez plays a middle-aged woman trying to break out of her dull life, a storyline that may sound like it has potential but, in this case, goes nowhere.

If only the world saw street smarts as equal to book smarts, Maya wishes on her birthday. It's a nice idea, but Second Act doesn't possess smarts in either category.

It sends so many mixed messages over the course of its 104 minutes that it probably succeeds in its true goal: to give off the general patina of something that could ostensibly be all things to all women.
