Director Mario Lanfranchi's only western is an interesting experiment, with it's ups and downs. It's another revenge story, this was 1968 after all, the revenge/i-keep-the-gold-for-me wave of westerns were at a high point. Lanfranchi decides to present the story in chapters, with each chapter having a different mood. I like that, on the other hand, the jumpy editing sometimes works against the movie and makes the whole thing feel too erratic or clumsy. One scene in particular: our hero is about to be killed by the gang of a ruthless priest (good ol Adolfo Celi) he is surronded by them, at their mercy, and then....he's alone? With enough time to free himself and fight back, then Celi and his men come back. An interesting take neverless on the usual italo-western conventions. Mostly for people who are curious to see something different, but after they saw almost every other important SW out there. Bonus points for Milian as the scene stealer, as usual. In this case, as a gold-obsessed albino badie.
