Every moment of Sicario: Day of the Soldado is soaked in an unilluminating and easy cynicism.

You definitely get that feeling of 'in-the-now'...these are current topics right here.

Day of the Soldado pales in comparison to its predecessor, but it is still better than most of the other action movies being made these days.

Everything is broadly orchestrated without anything close to the shocking surprises Kate confronted three years ago.

The problem is, because it is Sicario, of course you're going to compare it to the first Sicario and it isn't as good as the first Sicario.

Director Stefano Sollima serves up a fine, edgy piece of action for the summer. It's just that I'd hoped for more.

It just shouldn't exist...overall, save your money.

There's something missing from Sicario: Day of the Soldado...Much like in the ill-paced third season of Narcos, I see no compelling reason for this theme to explore a sense of redemption.

The high-intensity action sequences are still present, but they don't carry the same gravity; instead, they feel like shootouts for the sake of incorporating a gunfight.

Unlike its more artful antecedent, Day of the Soldado features an array of striking dead ends, glaring red herrings, unceremonious deaths and absent figureheads.

[VIDEO ESSAY] This is agitprop junk politics in the interest of normalizing hellishly violent acts, frequently involving children, in the context of America's raging border war against immigrant refugees.

"Sicario: Day of the Soldado" isn't a bad action movie, it just isn't even in the same league as the first one, so it feels like a disappointment.

By itself [the film] is a harmless action thriller, which has... a couple of interesting ideas and good characters here and there. [Full review in Spanish]

'Day of the Soldado' would be hard to stomach at any time. It feels particularly worthless now.

It's not as strong as its 2015 predecessor but Sicario: Day of the Soldado still features some great pieces that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

This Sicario may have more talking points than it can comfortably hold. It's often confusing, and its political irony is thick enough to slow the story down in spots. But it'll make you squirm.
