Movie Info

This adventure story, created with state-of-the-art computer animation technology, follows the adventurer Sinbad (voice of Brendan Fraser) as he discovers a mysterious island ruled by King Akron (voice of John Rhys-Davies) and his daughter, Princess Serena (voice of Jennifer Hale). Their benevolent rule is being challenged by Baraka (voice of Leonard Nimoy), a vicious wizard who uses his powers to sway the island to his own evil purposes. Serena enlists Sinbad's help in a voyage to find the missing ingredients for a spell that will conquer Baraka once and for all. Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists was the first full-length animated feature using the 3-D Animated Motion Capture process, which allows computer animators to translate the movements of live actors into animated characters, providing a heightened degree of realistic, natural movement.

Audience Reviews for Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists

Fraser's a good actor, but what this animated film tried to succeed was being the first motion capture feature-length CGI animated film and resulted to looks like a poor video game without gaming, having the animation to turn out to be somewhat a little creepy. (C+) (Full review coming soon)

I'm sorry but the animation was just horrid on this one. Otherwise the story was classic, but animation just killed it.

This 1999 animated flick has the fun distincation of being the first ever motion capture CGI film, and has some big names attached. Brendan Fraser is Sinbad, Leonard Nimoy is the evil sorccer, and Mark Hamill is the captain of the guard. The backgrounds are rendered beautifully, the lighting effects are perfect, and the heavy use of reflections is interesting. The characters move very well, and do small things that make it definitely seem like motion capture, unfortunately, they are rendered very simply. If you can get over that, there's a lot to enjoy here. Some good one liners, an original take on Atlantis, some cool creatures, and a solid adventure.
