Movie Info

A clergyman facing a mid-career crisis offers protection to a roaming con-woman who preys on celibates, only to have his life turned suddenly upside down when the woman discovers a damning secret that the holy man had been struggling to keep from his congregation. In an era where church closures, bankrupt dioceses, and religious scandal dominate the headlines, Father Anthony Romano (Nick Chinlund) longs to see his vocation redeemed. Father Romano's subordinate is a die-hard fundamentalist named Stephen. When Stephen attacks a prostitute grifter named Lil (Georgina Cates), Father Romano reluctantly offers the young woman sanctuary in his rectory. Later, Lil discovers a carefully guarded secret in the rectory that could stir up precisely the kind of controversy that Father Romano has been so desperately trying to avoid.

Audience Reviews for Sinner

The synopsis says it all. "A Catholic priest?s attempt to redeem his vocation and regain his integrity through an inconvenient muse" The muse being a vamp/prostitute who likes to defrock priests sworn to celibacy. A bit ironic to say the least. A decent character piece that does offer the viewer a chance to actually feel pity for the Catholic Church. With all the real-life scandals plaguing the church, to actually feel some pity for the priests (not the ones who molest children) is remarkable in its own right. Georgina Cates plays her role magnificently. She owned the screen when she was in the film. Worth watching just to see Cates walk into mass wearing a slutty outfit to then lighting up a cigarette during the opening homily. Great stuff.

The universal themes of forgiveness and redemption get a thoughtful and intelligent examination in director Marc Benardout's impressive feature film debut.
