"Skin" is a superficial and disappointing look at a person, a topic, and an organization that deserve a better, more nuanced portrayal than what Nattiv delivers. This is why "Skin" is so enraging. It can only be hate-watched.

Skin is the amazing story of a man who went to extreme measures to change, on the outside and within his heart.

Bell gets the opportunity to show huge emotional and physical range here, and even when the script turns a bit melodramatic toward the end, he provides a secure through-line.

The failure of the film to fully grapple with how Babs's anger pulses through the lives of the women in his orbit undercuts the tremendous work that Bell accomplishes onscreen.

If you have a strong stomach it is well worth seeing for the lessons it teaches about the value of survival in the pursuit of redemption.

The short was crassly played vengeance, and regrettably the feature - though boasting a stellar cast - similarly stumbles in its favoring of shallow intensity over psychological depth or coherence.

Nice job by Mr. Bell.

The excellent performance from Bell bolsters a film that is always interesting and, on occasion, compelling.

As the USA grapples with racism and the normalization of white supremacy, "Skin" digs deep into the neo-Nazi culture and how difficult it is to leave those communities. Gripping, stomach-turning, and compelling, "Skin" will stick with you.

Intense. Visceral. Brutal. Skin is an indelible character study of a man at a crossroads wanting a different life...[from] a world filled with hatred, racism, and violence. Jamie Bell delivers what may well be the performance of his career.

This film is gritty, raw and unseemly, and while Jamie Bell rightfully dominates and carries the picture, Vera Farmiga delivers the best performance.

Perhaps this is the most we can expect for now -- films about racism that tell us, over and over again, how very bad it is. We still wait for the film that cuts deeper.

What makes Skin so frightening is that it is all based in reality. The evil depicted here roams the planet with such an unbridled hatred that it should keep everyone awake at night.

Frightening, especially when examining how organized hate is managed and unleashed, but the picture isn't offering an overview of a movement. It's much more intimate.

Skin may feel at times like a familiar redemption tale, but like Bryon's tattoos, appearances don't tell the whole story.

The result is a listless film, one that manages a few gripping moments thanks to its cast but can't string them together into something meaningful.

"Skin" is rough around the edges, yet worth exploring to get at the goodness within.

A powerful - if somewhat repetitive - film, with a riveting performance at its center. And it's based on a true story where the good guys win.

"Skin" is a small, powerful, raw well-acted film that gives a close-up look at people who believe they have been left behind by society, that they have some kind of righteous claim to superiority, and a look as well as their leaders who exploit them.

A gripping interpersonal drama that nevertheless only scratches the surface of its weighty social themes.
