Great almost all the way around. The short scriptures that it displayed before each "chapter" were an interesting foreshadowing device. I thought they used it well. It was not by any means a typical Christian movie, which can become annoyingly preachy even if you like the message. The religious theme was actually very subtle. I thought the soundtrack, which I've seen criticized heavily in other reviews, was actually quite good. It was mostly made up of melancholy gospel sounding songs that actually also seemed to have secular lyrics. It was quite strange, but I thought it fit the movie well. The most distracting flaw was, for me, the accents. They just didn't seem quite right, some of them sounded almost Irish. Otherwise, it was a very good, dark crime film.

A very slow moving movie about a murder that happens in a small town in Ontario.
Peter Stormare plays the a local cop with a dark past who is involved in trying to solve the case.
Jill Hennessy plays the ex involved in with the actual murderer.
Religion is big in this film as are the loud flourishing song choices.
Though it is predictable and not much happens, it's still interesting.

For some reason, the background made this film great.

A short film, but effective. A great performance by Storemare. Cool soundtrack.

One of the best movies you have probably never heard of. Find it.

The film was like the Guard with no humour and very little going on! Don't expect a real thriller, or murder mystery, but just soak in the atmospheric picture of a small Canadian town painted through both cracking music and moody images. Passed an evening but wouldn't recommend strongly.

A beautifully made film with a unique soundtrack however has a dull plot and pace. Peter Stormare is great and proves to be an acting chameleon

I watched this on a whim because it was on Netflix and I was bored. Although I don't think the critics who likened it to a Coen Brothers film were entirely correct, it was a pretty good little movie. Plus, the soundtrack kicks some real ass.

I appreciate very much the tone and atmosphere it was going for and the sense of style in the music and the images coupled with them. It is an interesting film, but ultimately it is short and simple and does not manage to attain the "big" or intense feeling it seemed to be going for.

Dark, depressing, claustrophobic, three words which are more important than the storyline. Only 70mins long to tell the story of a policeman attaining redemption from his violent past, which is never fully explained.

If you're a big fan of movies with lots of dialogue this one contains very little. Instead, the events are portrayed mainly through the events and the characters reactions to them. Very introspective performance from Peter Stormare as the aging policeman in a small rural town where everybody knows everybody else's business. Certainly not to all tastes but well worth watching if you're looking for something a little different with very a realistic feel.

A good window into Mennonite music and culture.

Main plot boring, murder boring, subplots interesting. Main characters boring and boorish, supporting characters interesting and brilliant. An overall "Fargo" feel to the movie. Just enough there to be watchable.
