Movie Info

Sons of Perdition follows three boys after they leave Colorado City. With limited educations and rarely a stable address, the obstacles are enormous. All the boys have big dreams - starting with the hope of attending high school - but what they want most is contact with their families. For one teen in the film, this means numerous attempts to help his fourteen-year-old sister escape before an arranged marriage.

"Sons of Perdition" is a captivating testament, but the silence of the daughters is the real revelation.

What's here is compelling, if occasionally hard to follow.

Their valiant attempt to find themselves is stirring, and sometimes depressing, as they backslide into alcohol and drugs.

The FLDS exiles featured in Sons of Perdition fare better than you might expect and a "where are they now" coda provides more encouraging news.

Less a definitive historical account of American polygamy than a study of a very particular strain of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Audience Reviews for Sons of Perdition

A fascinating look into the polygamist cult in The Crick (Colorado City, AZ) and their brainwashing practices. Like most documentaries, it made me appreciate the life I have.

An enlightening documentary of how, even in a free society like America today, a fundamentalist, polygamist, mysogynist faith can thrive in the deserts of Utah and Arizona.

The film itself has a subtle feeling that it a series of youtube clips but that adds to the powerful emotional punch the film delivers. It's surprising that the challenges faced by this community and its members can happen in America.
