I think many people didn't like it because they saw it as a bad copy of M3GAN, or perhaps because the story wasn't as well developed as M3GAN, which is what many were expecting. Many also say it was very predictable, but I think that if you saw M3GAN, there was a high probability that Soulm8te would be predictable. I actually liked the film Companion even more than M3GAN, but I don’t consider Soulm8te to be a bad movie. The only thing I didn't like about Soulm8te was the ending; it lacked significance and wasn't powerful enough to wrap up the story. There wasn't a single moment where I lost interest or felt like stopping the film, which is why I’m a bit surprised by how the rest of the audience has rated it. While it does stand apart from the "M3GAN" films regarding its tone, it doesn’t function well with its flawed balance between erotic thrills, twisted violence, and anti-AI messaging. Instead of delivering the best of those aspects, the film gradually degrades itself into a shallow, highly derivative, and disappointingly tedious thriller that’s surprisingly less sexy and deranged in its algorithm. Despite Lily Sullivan’s best efforts to portray this alluring death bot, this cinematic product is another reason I'd stay away from companion robots or any AI robots in general. Bland cgi mush nothing at all visually appealing, cheap rape jokes that are “passable” because the woman is an android , not weird or uncanny enough for an ai horror, and I cannot think of a more unlikeable BLAND main character with his DISGUSTING food habits!! Predictable plot from start to finish you know he’s going to end up with his coworker the second you see them together on screen and the final act is not so much a “horror” as it is a cheap terminator in heels rip off. The fact japan already are working on sex bots, the future is looking darker with AI content, sxy terminators running around and being a full on wifi digital only future coming.
