Very interesting story, like many interviewed i believe we are not hearing the whole story. Hard to believe one man could do all this alone.
Grows into ludicrous, impressive, and almost-unsurprising portraits of lonely characters with too much money to burn and the man who took advantage of them. Laurent Ponsot charges through as the hero, with theatricality ingrained in his personality.
Very interesting and in-depth. Goes into the personality and chemistry of real people.
This is a doc. about wine primarily a wine counterfeiter his friends he conned plus some of the people that got ripped off hence the documentary name Sour Grapes. It was good.
Finally, I found a movie (doc) on Netflix that is truly fascinating !
I cannot say enough good things about this documentary. It is more proof that men are not qualified to rule or play any dominant position in this world. Follow this up with THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM
A fascinating look at the prelude to the biggest wine fraud trial in history.
This documentary flick elevates the art of wine collecting. Focusing on the craft and care that has been constantly evolving since wince has been corked. An elitist society of wealthy wine connoisseurs meet this unlikely novice who moves into the wine market buying up rare vintage like it's art work. Setting new prices, finding rare fines, Rudy becomes integrated into the wine clubs earning the trust of those who have been in the wine scene for decades.
Then it becomes clear to certain people. Doing some research, Rudy's fabricated world becomes questionable. Like an onion, one layer at a time, his world comes crashing to a halt.
Is it possible to manufacture vintage wine? Yes. And to that, Rudy's elite world once created with envy is put into a cell. Much like the deep and dark wine secrets of the 18the century that Rudy so craftily created to sell to the highest bidder, and to falsely inflate what was a sequestered little society of wine enthusiasts. Rudy a wine forger is put into jail. Stripped away of all the glamour that is his yang.
This movie follows the wonder of a wine world that many wouldn't even venture. Let's face it, wine is for drinking with a nice cheese. But it can be for collecting. Just to say you "have it." Even if the wine these elitists hold is fraud.
Very entertaining. Can't vouch for accuracy or comprehensiveness but was convincing. Comedic in style, serious in tone, suspenseful to the end (if you didn't Wikipedia the villain first).
Well made and highly interesting subject matter.
