Space Truckers should have succeeded yet its uneven tone, uneven script and uneven visual effects are its undoing. The cast is fine (especially Hopper) but while the idea of truckers in space is fairly unique the script doesn't do enough to make the whole thing more exciting than a muddled trip down a highway. Its focus on the common working class man is commendable but its lack of ambition considering the possibilities for adventure in the script is frustrating especially as it comes time for the credits to roll. Hopper and the country western adventure score are the highlights of the movie but it could have been more. It's a watchable movie with some charm but as a whole is as aimless and unpredictable as its driver.
A true classic. It has everything you want, space chases, square pigs, kungfu robots, and wang pulses.
Sorry i liked this as its not trying to be a serious space film but a cult comedy even down to the wang pulse Johnson lol. I am a space trucker in elite dangerous now thanks to this movie.
I liked it despite the near consensus panning of same. From its novel title, replete with country music and space-highway lane corridors, to its little nods to science like mustard floating in zero Gs into the hot dog...this is fun to watch. There's a secret coded toilet stall with a yammering old woman with a Queens accent that's a hoot!
And I like Hopper's acting. What do you want---Olivier? Beside, quite a few A-listers in this one including Chas. Dance & Stephen Dorff. After all, it's not supposed to be an homage to "Blade Runner" or "2001: A Spavce Odyssey". It's more like a "Tank Girl" w/ Lori Petty or a "Cherry 2000" w/ Melanie Griffith.
The misadventures of a space trucker and his sidekick transporting a super secret cargo to Earth. Literally feels like it was written in ten minutes as a joke.
Dennis Hopper and Stephen Dorff!? This movie is too awesome for words. Deserved a bigger budget. The black rock asteroid sequence is some of the best space action ever.
Silly movie but can be still enjoyed!
great attention to gravity
It's dopey with hammy acting and so-so FX but there's just something about this that makes it alot of fun.
Perhaps its because its directed by Stuart Gordon who really shows his Full Moon roots (back when they used to know how to make good low-budget, fun movies) or maybe its because of alot of the familiar faces: Dennis Hopper. Stephen (Blade) Dorff, Charles (Alien3) Dance and Vernon (Commando) Wells to name a few.
Or maybe it's just because its a dopey, hammy movie that knows how to have fun. Anyway, I enjoyed it.
Terrible. Made in 1997? Are you sure about that? More like 1977. Just think 2 years later The Matrix would come out.
