Movie Info

Stage to Mesa City was the first 1948 offering from whip-cracking cowboy star Lash LaRue. This time, the Cheyenne Kid (LaRue) tries to prevent the bad guys from taking over a stagecoach line. Predictably, there's a secret "Mister Big" behind the villains, and equally predictably he's played by stock PRC heavy George Cheseboro. Al "Fuzzy" St. John provides the laughs, while Jennifer Holt (whose brother Tim Holt was starring in a concurrently produced series of RKO westerns) provides the feminine appeal. Released in September of 1947 by PRC, Stage to Mesa City was distributed again as a "new" film in February 1948 by Eagle-Lion.

For what it is, it's an enjoyable formulaic action-packed B-Western that's crudely slapped together on the cheap.
