Good escapist entertainment mixing snappy dialogue with pistol shots and cocktails.

Audience Reviews for Star of Midnight

A Thin Man knock-off with William Powell's Clay Dalzell expertly aping his very own Nick Charles (well, he ought to be able to rip off his own character, right?). Ginger Rogers stands in for Myrna Loy, playing a spunkier, less refined Nora. The central mystery ends up being nothing special, but these films were always more about the interplay between Powell and his lady, and with that in mind it's a perfectly amusing diversion sure to be of interest to the Thin Man fan.

Essentially The Thin Man lite, this is a watchable outing for William Powell not quite playing Nick Charles. Ginger Rogers (who I don't know that I've seen in a film before this one) is great as his love interest, but considering the material I found myself looking around for Myrna Loy from time to time out of habit. Worth a look.

Oh man, by far my FAVORITE Thin Man knockoff. Ginger Rogers and William Powell are so perfect together. They really should have made more films together.
