Poor Robert Montgomery, always in love with women who don't love him and are seeing married men. I've watched 2 of these in a row - this one and When Ladies Meet. Good movies along the same theme.

Wow I didn't realize they made chick flicks back in the 30's. Basically, its a story about a free spirit who is torn between two guys. She of course picks the wrong one and ends up ditched in Mexico...Oh and the guy is already married. She starts to concentrate on herself by moving but is not satisfied. You watch the character grow through the movie and at the end she picks the right one. Not all gushy thank god but it was pretty good

Strangers May Kiss is an interesting movie. It could easily be seen as something of a clone of star Norma Shearer's film from the year before, The Divorcee, except that it's much better, and a tiny bit less insulting (though it does kind of manage a little bit of a slap in the face at the end). There are some moments of wonderful pre-code dialogue, and Shearer gives a great performance, probably even better than her performance in The Divorcee, for which she won an Oscar. Robert Montgomery lends amazing support as the man who loves Shearer completely unrequitedly. Shearer and Montgomery were a very good screen pairing, despite the fact that he rarely actually got her in the end.
