Strangers May Kiss is an interesting movie. It could easily be seen as something of a clone of star Norma Shearer's film from the year before, The Divorcee, except that it's much better, and a tiny bit less insulting (though it does kind of manage a little bit of a slap in the face at the end). There are some moments of wonderful pre-code dialogue, and Shearer gives a great performance, probably even better than her performance in The Divorcee, for which she won an Oscar. Robert Montgomery lends amazing support as the man who loves Shearer completely unrequitedly. Shearer and Montgomery were a very good screen pairing, despite the fact that he rarely actually got her in the end.
