The film could be described as a mix of Fargo and Blood Simple by the way of Tim Burton. It's undeniably entertaining but is hard to shake the feeling we have seen all this before.

It's a sweet, sweet romp with genuine suspense and cartoonish violence that aimed for a frolicsome good ride and hits its mark.

'Suburbicon' is a missed opportunity because it wants to cover too many different things and doesn't know how to do it in a natural way. [Full Review in Spanish]

Given the ghastly result, perhaps the Coens should sue, since it's almost inconceivable that their original idea bore much resemblance to a debacle that unexpectedly has emerged as one of the year's worst films.

Basically, repeatedly working with the Coens didn't turn Clooney into a Coen any more than his playing a doc on E.R. means I'd let him near me with a scalpel.

An uneven, often unpleasant satire that comes across as a pale imitation of the Coens' distinctive style.

Comedy is not effectively mixed with a serious thriller, ruining many potential tense moments; leaving the audience confused as to what emotion they should be feeling.

"Suburbicon," a film that, despite checking a lot of the right boxes, simply isn't very good.

Despite its roundabout way of making a point on racial ethics, the film is dipped into a half-baked murder mystery that's oddly daring and quite possibly incompetent (although the material works in a head-scratching kind of way).

Suburbicon feels like diet Coens--the taste is similar but ultimately inferior.
November 8, 2018
Suburbicon is a strange mix of murder mystery, outlandish comedy, and a flimsy civil rights commentary, but none of it lands the way the film wants it to.
October 30, 2018
Suburbicon is a movie that just falls short in almost every regard, as a dark comedy, as a crime drama, and as a commentary on how black progress in America is greeted with white backlash.

Right after a 'bumbling Damon' episode it's back to another tragic portrayal of an intolerant America of yesteryear. Rinse and repeat.

For the love of all things holy, we don't need trash like this. It poisons the soul. It worsens the credibility of an already struggling industry. Just stop.

The idea of the bizarre nature of suburbia has been explored by dozens of movies in the past, and it has been done better.
