An extremely adorable movie about four best friends during the summer before they transition into middle school. Each family is dealing with very difficult issues which the movie deals very delicately with. Vanessa is an aspiring actress, Lizzie's brother comes home from the war in Iraq wheelchair bound, Jess is struggling with the fact that her parents are separated and her mom has a new boyfriend, and Peri has a deep secret she can't tell anyone. All four girls will help each other get through their challenges together and discover that friendship is one of life's most important treasures.

GENRE: DRAMA TAGS: CHICK FLICK PLOT: Four girls interpret the fallout of adult issues through the microcosm of their suburban summer leading up to the first year of middle school.. COMMENTS: Tree-lined streets and comfortable suburban LA homes frame the events of this gentle adult drama as seen through the eyes of a quartet of eleven year old Burbank girls. Summer Eleven is a slice of life about four families, each facing different value challenges. The film is centered around an adolescent perspective, and in this way depicts a hidden dimension of the adult world to which most grown-ups are oblivious or have forgotten. While pre-teen girls will identify with the appealing central characters, they might find Summer Eleven dull and slow. (But adults won't.) The story is like a girl's version of Don Coscarelli's childhood odyssey Kenny & Company (1976), but Summer Eleven differs in that it's really made for adults. Unfolding the plot from the youngsters' imaginative point of view enables mature, and at times rather heavy issues to be explored from a unique angle. This technique results in a fresh, novel examination of white, middle-class values, paradigms and relationships. Serious subject matter is tempered by gentle, intimate cinematography. A cute and nicely made film, Summer Eleven's soft editing, colorful visual footprint, and overall soothing tone makes the film distinctive, and authentic. With nostalgia generating elements like Dixie cartoon cups, ice cream trucks and tented backyard sleepovers, Summer Eleven is a good vehicle for refreshing grown-ups' memories of what it was like to see the world as a magical place that didn't always make perfect sense.

Summer Eleven - trailer 1

Summer Eleven - trailer 2
