What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite flashy sets and special effects, Super Mario Bros. is too light on story and substance to be anything more than a novelty.

I prefer a film that takes risks over inane projects. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Like their video-game counterparts, co-stars Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo somehow manage to weave their way past threatening obstacles and escape with their dignity. Go to Full Review

Scenery rushes by, noise blares, characters pop up wearing new costumes that they couldn't possibly have had time to change into as they eluded their adversaries. Go to Full Review

Those unfamiliar with the intricacies of Nintendo will probably find themselves wishing they could pull the plug on this intoxicating but ultimately droning light show. Go to Full Review

...Super Mario Brothers is an origin story, but adds so much detail that any joy of seeing Mario fly is negated by heavy plotting and far too much time spent watching Hopper/Koopa chew the scenery... Go to Full Review

Although the theatrical release is perhaps too narratively disjointed and tonally dissonant to qualify as 'good,' it so proudly brandishes its bonkers, go-for-broke aesthetic, one hesitates to label it entirely 'bad' either. Go to Full Review

Bryan R. @Yrzvbry 13h I love the movie, it’s underrated and overhated by some people. I wish it had gotten a sequel. It’s not perfect, but it’s still really good. I especially like how it focuses a bit on Luigi and Daisy, and I definitely ship them. See more Andersen F @Hellothere5630 1d Visualy pleasing, great plot, but Koppa's plans are just weird See more Kage B @RT48476646 1d There is not a single bad thing I would ever say about this movie that hasn't already been said. Thank God Nintendo corrected that mistake, twice now. However, if there is one good thing I would ever say to this movie, it's that I would rather watch it over AI slop. Because even though this is a trashy film that has absolutely no regard to the source material whatsoever, abominations made by humans will always be better than abominations made by robots. See more Mikey M. @RT32810535 1d One of the biggest cinematic abominations ever put to the silver screen! No real resemblance to the source material except for their briefly worn outfits from the games (vaguely). Piece of cinematic garbage! See more Zaccario P. @zaccarioplanetoid 6d This film was gravely misunderstood when it came out, and never got the love it deserved. This insanely creative adaptation into a 1980’s urban sci-fi adventure was genius and still holds up! See more Unknow U @RT53265148 Mar 17 Underrated masterpiece 10/10 5/5 See more Read all reviews
