This is a strong first attempt for director Laura Thies and writer Mara Lesemann. It's interesting and entertaining with some iffy acting but it doesn't do anything brand new with the family comedy. It does get pretty dark at time, which I like, but the story dwells in the past. There are a lot of flashbacks, a lot of talking about the past, and the characters are super concerned about the past. I would prefer it to look forward, but it's a good film.
