Mildly progressive sequences are swamped by the constant comic-strip pile-up of cars which ultimately makes this a stock exploding racing car action hokum.

The film is so single-mindedly determined to be light and comfortable, to not raise a sweat, that it forgoes even the mildest surprises. The only things that get heavy here are the viewer's eyelids.

While Ta Ra Rum Pum doesn't deliver pure joy, it's worth a pit stop , if for no other reason than for its amusing, back-seat view of an India in flux and seduced by Western pop culture.

In its utter sincerity, it has an old-fashioned appeal that may not be for everybody but could definitely play in Peoria.
