Fanciful Bollywood dramedy fine for tweens and up.

The "cute" kids are insufferable, but leads Ali Khan and Mukerji radiate the unabashed star quality that's all but gone from American movies -- poverty and desperation haven't looked so glamorous since the glory days of Joan Crawford.

While Ta Ra Rum Pum doesn't deliver pure joy, it's worth a pit stop , if for no other reason than for its amusing, back-seat view of an India in flux and seduced by Western pop culture.

In its utter sincerity, it has an old-fashioned appeal that may not be for everybody but could definitely play in Peoria.
