A mainstream comedy that tries to be different, Tag reminded me of "Game Night" and "The House" in its determination to go to the edge of the cliff, peer over, then jump right into the abyss. Funny and fast, though sometimes repetitive, it works (just!).

Tag could easily have been brilliant if it stuck closer to its core concept, and yet it's merely good.

The unlikable characters, unfunny script and the sharp turn towards forced sentimentality will make you want to tag out of the film.

Tag manages to pack an emotional resonance, without tethering much into 'bro' territory.

[Jeff Tomsic] fails to separate his film from the rest of its ilk. At best, it is a witty variation of the boisterously indulgent examinations of American privilege. It offers nothing novel of note.

Just because "Tag" is inspired by a true story doesn't make it any less asinine. Unctuous, unfunny, & developmentally discombobulated to the extent it feels like a fever dream in retrospect, the film is 100 minutes of would-be rollicking nothingness.

We're left with an entertaining but hollow start moving towards an ending of fabricated emotional release. The result only proves the filmmakers didn't know what they wanted.

I had a good time watching it overall, just don't expect anything Oscar-worthy.

Tag may embrace its absurd premise and the story it's based on with a talented ensemble... but it's way too mean spirited and cartoonish.
August 21, 2018
The film never stops playing, and the gags never get old.

[Tag] is still a fun one and it might just have you and your friends trying to come up with your own epic game of tag.

'Tag' delivers slapstick comedy for adults.

It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

It's absurd and silly, but it has its charm... thanks to a fabulous and committed cast. [Full review in Spanish]
