Archer J @RT50320883 1d Peter Boyles inhabits his role of the notorious Senator Joseph McCarthy with vigor. The term "McCarty era" has come to represent this decade of paranoia from the early 50's to the early 60's when the "Red Scare" dominated American politics. It hasn't been completely expunged to this day. That McCarthy was truly a fraud and a con-man is illustrated in this movie. We may laugh in retrospect but there can be no doubt that Joe McCarthy manipulated a gullible American public with his baseless smears and charges of disloyalty against innocent persons who opposed him. It has a certain resonance with current politics I'm afraid. See more Read all reviews
