As young Bastian opens the pages of "The Neverending Story," he learns that the Childlike Empress is near death and Fantasia is in danger of falling prey to the Dark Princess Xayide. Soon falling through the written page and into a world beyond his wildest imagination, Bastian's alter ego Atreyu must enlist the help of his trusty sidekick Fly Girl and mischievous hucksters Rip Rowdy and Wexlerian if there is any hope of unlocking the mystery of the Southern Oracle and awakening the Childlike Empress to bring order back to Fantasia.

This movie was AWFUL!!!!! There was a kiss in the very beginning before we even knew the characters that well. There was no romance whatsoever and the movie had a terrible script but decent acting.I think Elijah wood did well to stay away from this one. (I heard he almost took the part of Bastian.)

I bought it. I tried to see it. I had to stop. I threw it in the trash. Years later, I reconsidered and bought it again. The actors are good. The problem is that the directors turned the theme of the book into a series of cliches. What's original of The NeverEnding Story is that it is NOT a mere fight between good and evil. The Empress has no sister. The Nothing has No One behind it. That's why it's called ' Nothing' . The Empress represents Imagination, so she has to accept all subjects of Fantasia AS THEY ARE: Good or Evil. She does not judge. In this poor film Atreyu has been turned from a proud young warrior to an insecure character; Bastian has 2 friends (and, yes, one of them is a nerd) when, in the book, he had None. They added a " Fly Girl" that wasn't there. In short, I don't care much about this film. It's turned a great story into more of the everyday average sh*t you see on TV and cheap videos.
