"Terminus Paradis" contains moments of sheer power and, definitely, it is not without interest, but I felt the overall result was marred by an uneven tone.

A great film by a great filmmaker with great actors. A unique love story, a surreal film. Mitu embarks on Hell's train called LIFE, but as the title suggests, it will not stop at Paradise station. Mitu is the product of chaos and confusion of post revolution Romania with dreams of America and a better life. The language is typical Pintiliesque drown from the low classes. The story is raw, full of tension and fascinating as most of Pintilie's films.

Terminus Paradis in one word: a mirror of real life, with shocking ideas, shocking words and images. Under this, a simple, but exhaustive analysis of post-communist Romanian life. The simple action, built on an American-like image, shows the pathological typology of the new "capitalist" mentality, adapted from the elder East-European one. The reactions of post-communist changes are different. Violence, on one side (like Cafanu, the hero of the story) and passivity, on the other side (like his colonel) are just a flash aimed on the Romanian mind.

A great film about how a normal life can be messed up from system's violence; it really is a shame it hadn't this big commercial spread; I watched it subtitled, and it is really worth!
