incredibly slow ripoff of the Island of Dr. Moreau

I don't know if terror is a man or a cat man, but I do know that this movie is boooooooring. A wannabe adaptation of The Island of Dr. Moreau, the only thing really noteworthy about this flick is its attempt at William Castle-like showmanship with its turnaway bell & raw surgical meat splicing...and according to the excellent documentary Machete Maidens Unleashed, Terror is a Man is the birth of the Philippines exploitation movement. Cool. Sure. But such notes not a good movie make, and when all is said and done this is just a snoozefest with a couple of bright Cat Mummy moments. VF.

Based on The Island of Dr Moreau, a ship-wrecked sailor washes to shore on a island (Blood Island, to be exact) to be rescued by a local scientist. The scientist/surgeon lives on the island with his hot wife (who at one point is obviously playing with herself in bed and later has a camel-toe) and assistant. There is a village present on the island as well, and they have reported missing/murdered people. Apparently, the scientist has created a human from a panther; the panther roams the island jungle killing. The sailor investigates and there is the expected snooping and showdown. For being a 50s Filipino horror film, this wasn't as bad as it could have been (just VERY slow paced).

Poor quality horror with an unconvincing beast. The story is not strong enough to distract from the low quality 'B' movie production.

its practicly same case scenario of the killer shrews execpt it involes a mad doctor that has made a panther into a man. at least the effects of the panther man are not showen to the aduiance due to it being covered by banadges other wise it would be embarising for the filmaker of this.. wait it would of being more enetertaing for the audiance if the saw the fucken panther man because it takes 1 whole hour for the damm thing to apper. 5/10 it only got this mark because of its mild orginal plot line.

Wow that was boring. I thought it might be at least entertaining, but it was just really slow. It started out with

Which made me think it would be somewhat entertaining, but the disclaimer had more screen time than the scene it referred to, which was a 7 second "surgery" which was obviously someone just cutting a piece of foam. At least the last 15 minutes or so had a decent amount of camp, but not enough to make up for the rest of the movie.

This was actually a surprise for me. I love old B films, but I have come to expect little from them, and yet this movie, despite the usual formula pieces, offered a much better showing than is to be assumed. One has to laugh at the fact that a bell chimes in the movie to warn viewers of a gruesome scene (an operation that is old hat for shows like ER or even Scrubs today), and the monster's transformation is hard to believe, but the interactions between the characters does not just fall into the typical hum-drum of canned lines as one might expect. There is actually some believability to the thoughts and frustrations of those on screen, and the mad scientist feels more like a normal human than a man from a psych ward. The story also moves along nicely, and the material that is not directly related to the monster actually has the feeling as if you have walked into the middle of people's lives, instead of a neatly wrapped episodic event. A decent tale for old science fiction.

Surprisingly atmospheric for a Filipino horror flick. The monster make-up is quite effective.

Good movie. Pretty standard drive-in cheese with a decent story. Also known as Blood Creature and Creature From Blood Island.
