Before there was the musical Fiddler on the Roof, there was this Yiddish drama. Like Fiddler, it is based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem and upon a popular Yiddish play in New York City. The story centers on the problems the Russian-Jewish milkman faces when his daughter falls in love with a Gentile with a socialist bent. Poor Tevya becomes even more upset when his daughter begins emulating her new beau's political ideology. The film is in Yiddish with English subtitles.
