Movie Info

This paranoid thriller begins as Eric Roberts' girlfriend (Janine Turner) is taken away in an ambulance and he can't find her. She's been taken prisoner by Eric Braeden, a crazed doctor who kidnaps people and sells their bodies for spare parts. Roberts hooks up with pretty cop Megan Gallagher to solve the mystery. A campy, action-packed thriller from cult director Larry Cohen (It's Alive), The Ambulance features a cameo by Marvel Comics prez Stan Lee and lots of tongue-in-cheek humor. It's as quirky as Cohen's other genre forays, and is entertaining enough for a rainy day rental, with clever photography by Jacques Haitkin and a tense score by Jay Chattaway.more

Audience Reviews for The Ambulance

Cult horror film featuring Eric Roberts, The Ambulance is one of those gems that are sure to delight genre fans with its premise. This is pure midnight horror at its best, and it's a well constructed film that has a fun, engaging idea for those who are looking for a fun low budget horror B movie. The idea behind the film is interesting and the direction by awesome cult film director Larry Cohen is top notch and he directs a film that is a definite must watch for genre fans. Films like this are rare in the sense that they deserve to be rediscovered and use simple ideas to create a tense, horrifying story. The film may be cheesy, but that's what makes it worth seeing. The cast do a fine job in their roles, and it ends up being an engaging picture from start to finish. The film has a good blend of horror and action, and Cohen yet again delivers a film that is pure horror camp, and he always manages to make some of the finest cult horror films of the 80's, and with this, he has made a terrific early 90's film that continues his tradition of making memorable cult pictures. The concept is good, and it is sure to please horror fans looking for something different. I recommend this film to anyone that enjoys a well crafted B movie. This one is a standout affair with plenty of thrills and chills and I've seen my share of low budget horror films, and The Ambulance is an underrated forgotten gem that deserves to be rediscovered by genre fans. The film may have its flaws, but it's worth seeing if you're a fan.

This movie has it's moments, but overall it's pretty stupid. The cast is good however. It goes on a little too far as well. It's a middle of the road movie.

I only watched this because I thought it was about paramedics. Ugh. The only memorable part of this bizarre thriller was watching how James Earl Jones furiously chews his gum.
