Cheap and cheerful exploitation shocker from the 60s. It's been shot on poor quality film stock so picture isn't great, neither is the audio... in fact most things about this film are poor. The gore is pretty fake looking, but at least it has some and it's quite humourous to see. Not a bad plot either, it has a good twist. Stupid bizarre fun overall. Surprisingly banned in Britain as a "Video Nasty".

On one hand, "The Ghastly Ones" tells a coherent, though moronic 19th century greedy-relatives-fighting-over-inheritance caper. On the other hand, you can actually hear Milligan directing his actors from behind the camera. Not to mention both hands become detached with the absurd ease one would expect from one of Andy's blood-soaked efforts. Judging from what we see here, he believes humans are like insects, with limbs designed to detach if latched onto by a predator, or in this case, lopped off by a hatchet wielding hooded housekeeper. Bonus half star for the hilarious truncated ending: "Lawyer Dobbs?!?!?!?!!!"

Fun little Andy Milligan film, which features no budget but loads of insanity. Similar in look to Herschell Gordon Lewis films, but Milligan's film features far more plot than any of Lewis's films. Milligan's plot twists and turns as it is revealed by the so horrible its humorous acting. Worth seeing for fans of schlock filmmaking.
