Claudette Colbert stars as a stenographer who meets and is romanced by Ray Milland. She thinks he is an unemployed layabout, but grows to love him anyway. In fact, he's English nobility vacationing in secret in the US. The story is broken by her reporter friend (Fred MacMurray), and a series of misunderstandings fracture the relationship. In retaliation, MacMurray (who has a crush on Colbert) makes up a series of stories that make her look like the injured party and make her into a celebrity in the process. The first of seven films to pair Colbert with MacMurray. It's an amiable romantic comedy. Nothing special, but it highlights what an appealing screen couple they are.
