I loved it. Gassman - looking very much like a young Monty Clift - is superb and if you like nothing else, the authentic location shooting of it in 1953 NYC will keep any true noir fan VERY happy!

Never heard of this movie before. Kinda interesting. Chases around early 1950s NYC. About illegal immigrant from Hungary. I didn't know who GLORIA GRAHAME was (older than my father). And I barely knew VITTORIO GASSMAN. Saw this movie on late nite TV, 12.1.19.

This is an overlooked gem, with a noir feel. Great shots of Times Square in the mid 1950's. New York as an all-night city, filled with characters including a classic "masher", a cheap con artist, and two sketchy women with hearts of gold. This is a story of an undocumented immigrant, likely a Holocaust survivor, eluding a police manhunt while he searches for the only person who can prevent his deportation. Strong performances by Gloria Grahame and Vittorio Gassman.

The Glass Wall is an okay film. It is about European who jumps ship as a way to immigrate to America. Vittorio Gassman and Gloria Grahame give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Maxwell Shane did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama.

this movie must have been the source for the tom hanks movie about the guy in the terminal, except gassman has a better accent and doesn't sound like he's doing boris badenov or akim tamirof. the story is unlikely in some ways, but it is very well done. it also shows manhattan before the u.n gardens were landscaped and the els were torn down. is that any reason for someone who hates immigrants to watch it? i think so. this story is still taking place in this country and others. and it has early jack teagarden, too. check it out.

He may have survived the War and years in a concentration camp, but stowaway Peter Kaban (played by Vittorio Gassman) may have met his match in New York City. The system, thugs, cops, grifters, and the very city itself grinds and grinds the man down until there's nearly nothing left. Can he survive long enough for someone to listen to anything he has to say? Will someone just let this guy find his friend Tom? You know, the clarinet player? The one who works in Time Square.

Interesting noir about a Hungarian man desperate to immigrate to America who stows away on a ship and escapes detention to try to find support for his visa petition from a U.S. soldier he saved during WW II. A good race-against-the-clock suspense story with great location footage of NYC, this movie reflects a positive, even romantic, view of immigration to America.
