Audience Reviews for The Golden Line (Subarnarekha)
Not a summary available here, huh (also note the release year was 1965, not 2011)? A brother and his young sister in or near Calcutta, following the 1947 Partition of India, essentially adopt a boy after his mother was taken away. It's not difficult to figure out where things will progress in that regard story-wise, but there are some dark turns.
Truly an outstanding film. It deals with the India/Bangladesh division, but also touches on modern ambition and caste prejudice, as these factors come together to create a rather Shakespearan tragedy. Again, the use of sound and music is astonishing, often blending from one scene to the next, occuring as an audio flashback, or somehow heightened or distorted. And the songs are quite beautiful, as is the cinematography. Besides a little clunky acting, I can't find anything to complain about.
