Movie Info

Ray Bradbury helped adapt his own classic story for the screen in this spooky animated adventure. Four children are struggling to come to terms with the illness of their close friend, Pip; as they get ready to celebrate Halloween, Pip's favorite holiday, Pip takes a turn for the worse, but as he's taken to the hospital in an ambulance, the kids see what appears to be Pip's spirit running through the woods. The kids give chase, and happen upon Mr. Moundshroud (Leonard Nimoy), the mysterious proprietor of a local spook house, who gives the children a crash course on the history of Halloween and its traditions.

Audience Reviews for The Halloween Tree

The Halloween Tree provides a great number of highly enjoyable elements simultaneously. Exploration, history, and magic are rolled into a single, fantastical story that shows the commitment and love between friends as well as the many roots which inspired the cultural phenomenon that is Halloween. It's a globe trotting, time travling kids adventure that is paired with an excellent original soundtrack that stands up very well when listened on its own, doesn't so much deliver hard sleep depriving scares, but rather incites a spooky wonder, leaving you feeling as though you yourself are a child once again, experiencing the chills and thrills of this great holiday for the first time all over again. For me, only a few movies, live action or animated, have held up for me over the years that can stoke the eerie tone I crave every fall, and this is most certainly one of them.

A thrilling tale, while not exactly like the book it manages fairly well on its story. The selling/high points for me are the music and the sombre moments that give the film some feeling.

Saw this back in the mid 90's and loved it. Bought a VHS tape of it back in 05. Need to get a DVD copy
