Audience Reviews for The Most Hated Family in America

Louis Theroux is an awesome journalist who always reports on interesting subjects. The most hated family in America takes a look at the Westboro Baptist Church, an extremist church in Kansas who pickets the funerals of dead soldiers due to America's tolerance of homosexuality. I know how that sounds, and it really doesn't make sense. Theroux's documentary exposes these lunatics for what they are. This is a revealing documentary, one that shows the ugly side of religious nuts who take religion too far, and the documentary is quite disturbing as we see what the Church does to family of countless Americans who are related to troops who have given their lives for their country. Louis Theroux is an amazing journalist, and he always manages to get at the centre of his subject. The documentary features interviews with members of the church, including the head of the church Fred Phelps and his daughter Shirley Phelps. America's most hated Family is quite infuriating as well, and you ask yourself how these cruel people can get away with such hatred. They don't preach the word of god, they preach hate, and they only use the bible as a subtext for their messed up church ideology. With that being said, the Westboro Baptist Church are always very much hypocrites and whatever they preach is absolutely ridiculous. Louis Theroux has crafted a fine documentary here and it is worth seeing. Theroux is one of the finest journalists that I have ever seen, and this is yet another fine piece of journalism.

As a documentary that was produced before the WBC really began to pick up public steam, it's fascinating to see a fresher perspective on the family. It's a good place to start if you are interested in learning about them.

Louis's calm manner, but persistant jibes to the family that calls themselves God fearing Christians make for controversial, debate urging viewing, one way or another you're bound to have an opinion on this. Whether it's picketing at the funeral of a soldier or condemming homosexuality, extra marial sex, or behaving in a cult like fashion, the documentary is an interesting watch and yet another good one for the Louis Theroux collection.
