Exceptionally well-written and acted; one of the best of the British WWII dramas.

Brilliant, emotional and tragic tale about the lives of the pilots, ground crew and local villagers around Halfpenny Airfield between 1940 and 1945. Michael Redgrave, John Mills, Rosamund John and Douglas Montgomery lead an excellent cast, which also includes appearances from Felix Aylmer, Bill Owen, David Tomlinson and Trevor Howard/

Stereotypical British RAF (reserved and talk tea) meet stereotypical American USAAF (brash, loud, cocky) over in jolly ol' England where they start their bombing missions to Germany. The film gets into the feelings of the men fighting and the public who are affected. This film shows no actual war footage - just highlights the emotional aspect of the impact war has. The film is well handled under the direction of Asquith and there is a very strong cast. It would have been nice to paint a more realistic portrait of the men instead of relying so heavily on stereotypes to craft a more complex story. Definitely worth seeing.

The Way to the Stars is an excellent film. Michael Redgrave and John Mills give incredible performances. The screenplay is well written. The settings are also remarkable. Anthony Asquith did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed this motion picture because of the drama and romance. The Way to the Stars is a must see.

Well-told tale of airmen trying to fight a war. Comedy, pathos and huge dollops of ordinary-man heroism.

Nothing compared to imaginative work of Powell/Pressburger, Reed or Lean, but it's quiet and sad and rather touching.

Very decent British war movie. Excellent characterisation dealing with the realities of the lives of the airmen on the ground. Decent performances and a solid script makes this one to check out.

One of my favourite war films. Never schmaltzy, but dealing with the realities of wartime and relationships. Oh and John Mills won the war single-handedly didn't he?

A war movie with plenty of conscience, it has a hard messages on life, but considering the time it was made it gets down to earth with the various social realities of the era.
