Movie Info

This tale about the Spanish conquering of the Aztecs was about as historically accurate as films cared to be (in the silent days, especially, it was nearly blasphemous not to have a love interest), and Cecil B. DeMille does it up in typically epic fashion. Captain Alvarado (Wallace Reid) is sent by Cortez (Hobart Bosworth) to see Montezuma (Raymond Hatton). He demands that Montezuma surrender; instead Montezuma throws him into a dungeon. But Tecza (Geraldine Ferrar), the ruler's daughter, has fallen in love with Alvarado. She saves him, only to have him kidnapped by the warrior Guatemoco (Theodore Kosloff). So Tecza finds the Spanish invaders and leads them back to the city. They destroy the Aztec nation, but Alvarado is saved. He hunts down Tecza, who has exiled herself, and declares his love for her.
