Formulaic and family-friendly, yet frighteningly forgettable - it's aimed at 8 to 12 year-olds.

They're creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky, and all together ooky. They're not bland, toothless, cuddly or conformist. Yet as reimagined for this new animated effort, they're about as edgy as Strawberry Shortcake or The Care Bears.

Its celebration of misunderstood outsiderdom is too generic to amount to much more than a bargain-basement 'Despicable Me'.

"The Addams Family" has been done to death. Enough already, give it a rest.

The film would have done well to keep things simple, and leave the characters room to breathe.

All the right stuff is there, you can pretty much find everything you're looking for, but the presentation just kind of seems like it's thrown together to make a profit.

The Addams Family makes for a fun-ish Halloween film that is safe for most kids to watch; I just wish the movie had as much personality as the theme song did.

The film's writing is unambitious; there's little to cause adults to smile knowingly.

You can tell from all the oddball minutiae... how the filmmakers are striving for fun worthy of the "Addams Family" legacy. But this incarnation just isn't the scream that it could be.

...with the Halloween season right around the corner. the tired novelty of serving up these frightening funny faces in a packaged kiddie comedy is moreso a tepid trick than it is a treasured treat.

It doesn't make for a great film, but it also doesn't make for a terrible one. Rather it's another average family film that plays it safe despite its claims to edginess.

I can't help feeling (and saying) that the 1991 live-action version... was better and much funnier.

Steps right in its first few minutes, deepens in its second act, gets you excited for a great and fun movie, and then just devolves into a mess in its final third. (Full Content Review for Parents - Violence, Imitative Behavior, etc. - Available)

So-so adaptation isn't spooky, kooky enough; a few scares.
