The movie isn't exactly scary, and it has a tendency to meander. But the crumbling, ornate sets are an atmospheric marvel, and a cutout-animated collage sequence unveiling Xanaz's damned origins is Terry Gilliam-level...

Excellent animation, great visual design, and a first rate score - but, after getting off to a good start for the first 15-20 minutes or so, the movie spins its wheels for a long time before it gets to a few more interesting minutes at the conclusion.
