Varley’s grip, her taut observation of nerve-wracking isolation, loosens and the film devolves into a blunt and clichéd consideration of family. The transition is awkward, and more cartoonish than moving, as the performers try to regain their footing.

“The Astronaut “ This space film starring Kate Mara and Lawrence first born was just OK in my opinion for a 2026 movie. It’s not what one that uh I would highly recommend but if you like space movies then this one I guess is OK. Some of the special effects are just mediocre but the storyline I did like I just think a little bit more money could have been spent on the sets and costuming .I like the premise of the movie it had the makings of a real good one if it just had a better script. And some better lighting and special effects. Just my opinion let me know if you disagree.

I enjoyed it. It’s one of those films where it’s very formulaic but sometimes I like that type of thing, in this case I enjoyed the plot, score, cinematography, casting, delivery. I knew a twist was coming but couldn’t quite guess it. It felt rushed in the end (probably to meet the 1:30 mark) and there were a couple of moments where you’re not 100% impressed with the leads decision-making skills but I still enjoyed it. I can see why it got a lower RT score since they could’ve embellished better on key aspects but still it was pretty good for what it is, at least a 60% RT score in my book.

Really nice twist at the end that explains very clearly why the astronaut was left alone in this huge house after returning to Earth. The acting is very basic, but it's an action/suspense movie, with a few moments of those "horror" chills.
