Audience Reviews for The Black Cat
I really want to see this movie again, I saw it a long time ago, and loved it, but I don't remember much of the story now. I do remember the great actors: Lugosi and Rathbone. I still recommend this movie.
Light chiller with great cast who all seem to be enjoying themselves. Sondergaard is wonderfully malevolent although with a humorous touch. The sporadic humor is what actually saves the picture from being just another creaky house thriller.
Not to be confused with the Karloff/Lugosi 1936 film of the same name. Though Lugosi is in this one as well as Basil Rathbone and the very 1st best supporting actress award winner, Gale Sondergaard. This is an ensemble film in which no one really stands out, though Sondergaard is pretty good. The comedy is simple but does the job I suppose and the mystery isn't so easy to fugure out I suppose though I was to enravled in this one. It certainly isn't bad...it just sort of happens and then it's over. Just an average movie.
