It's the year 1997. There are empty shop counters, economical instability and criminal dramas, all this spreads out of almost every corner. A young leader of a criminal gang, Anton Bykov, by the nickname " Bull " is forced to provide for his family by any means necessary. Anton was taken to the police station after a neighborhood firefight. One of the Moscow criminal leaders helps him to get out, in return he asks the character to do a small but dangerous favor.

Critic Reviews for The Bull (Byk)

All Critics (2) | Top Critics (1) | Fresh (2)

  • Tania's worldliness, her pragmatism in dating a wealthy foreigner she does not love but who offers her the possibility of escape may itself be schematic... but it does help ground the "The Bull" in the limbo-like hopelessness of its time and place.

  • There's not much new in The Bull, but there is enough verve and assuredness to declare this a strong debut from Akopov, and it will be interesting to see where his career will take him next.
