Movie Info

Determined fashion journalist Lane Daniels (Hilary Duff) weighs love against ambition while researching the Cosmopolitan cover story that could make or break her career. An aspiring writer who has always dreamt of penning a cover story for Cosmo, Lane makes a pitch to editor Kate White (Jaime Pressly) for an article entitled "Switching Careers to Find Love." Incredibly, Kate gives Lane the green light, instructing her to first seek out a corporate job, and commence dating as many of her co-workers as possible. In no time, Lane is punching the clock, and juggling boyfriends. But while Tom (Michael McMillan) and Seth (Matt Dallas) are both plenty of fun, charming music producer Liam (Chris Carmack) is the guy who really drives Lane wild. Trouble is, Liam doesn't work in Lane's office, so he's strictly off-limits. Now, with her biggest career goal finally within grasp, Lane must choose to follow her heart, or give in to ambition.

Little to no surprises outside of the pronounced sexual vibe of the film. It's mild entertainment for older viewers, a perfect fit for the pap programming of Lifetime, not the alleged wholesomeness of ABC Family.

Audience Reviews for Beauty & the Briefcase

I really wasn't expecting much, but actually this was okay. The ending was idiotic - I don't get how she came to her big realisation, except that it suited the story. And she's an airhead. But it was light viewing and mildly entertaining.

I normally can't stand Hilary Duff, but this movie was surprisingly good. Pretty predictable, but still cute.

The adorable, sweet and charming Hilary Duff produced this movie. Yay! At times the movie is so corny, that you will find yourself cringing and wondering--why am I still watching this? The movie exploits the topic of how being a young, and beautiful, woman is enough to get by in todays world. Being dumb (not intelligent) is funny, and desirable, too. Way to be a role model to our kids! The movie tries very hard to become The Devil Wears Prada and Legally Blonde, and it doesn't come close. All in all, this is an entertaining, teeth cringing, hiding behind your pillow because of the embarrassment, 86 minutes of cutesy.
