Mark Wilson brings a grounded, atmospheric approach to horror that feels confident and controlled. He lets scenes breathe. He leans into silence. He is not rushing to throw scares at you every few seconds. Go to Full Review

The care and craft that went into the film is noticeable, right down to the hand-painted storybook illustrations created by artist Richard Ingersoll. Go to Full Review

Poppy G @poppyglasswriter 6d What seems like a relatively simple set-up quickly becomes a twisty mystery that will likely keep you guessing until the end. One of the things I enjoyed most about this film is that the characters felt real. No one was entirely good or bad. Everyone had flaws and they were doing their best to work through them. Every character had moments where their behavior was surprising and illuminating, which added suspense to the narrative. I also appreciated how much this film did with so little in terms of special effects. There were genuinely scary moments evocative of the horror genre, but most of the tension is created by the isolated location, the darkness, the frame narrative of the spooky storybook, and the characters’ paranoia. I genuinely didn’t know what to expect when I decided to watch this film, and I was so pleasantly surprised. It’s such a strong entry to the horror or thriller genre, and everyone should definitely give it a try and see if they like it too. See more Ethan R @NotUrRealDad Jun 30 A good slow burn, not exactly what I expected but not a bad movie at all. More mystery than horror and was hoping for actual, supernatural witchery butttt still not bad. See more Logan D @Greynomad38 May 11 Following her mother's death, a young woman struggles in her relationship with her father, who doesn't want her to leave for college but stay and take care of her brother. While the father is gone for his work, the two siblings begin to suspect their mother's book about a local witch may not just be a story. An unhurried film with a strength grounded in the relationship between the sister and brother. Most of the film is structured around the isolation of their house and the legacy of the author mother. Really more of a thriller with a strong female hero. See more Sam S @Sammy1979 May 3 It's a good watch not at what you would expect, blood. Scares, goes down a dark route with a twist near the end See more Rachel C. @RT16531170 Apr 27 I really enjoyed the quality and acting. I have seen worse, so give it a try....
