Critic Reviews for The Collector
An amusing look at the life of a unique human who lived life to the fullest.
The Collector, a documentary about influential New York art gallery owner Allan Stone, is fascinating for its nonstop parade of significant 20th-century art.
For a film about obsession, Olympia Stone's biopic is remarkably laid back.
A pleasant experience, one roughly akin to viewing a casual acquaintance's unexpectedly witty homemovies. Provided, of course, said acquaintance is the child of a charismatic eccentric who was a friend and champion of such artists as Willem de Kooning.
Olympia tries to impose order on a loosely shaped series of interviews with and about her dad via voice-over narration, but her trivial, self-absorbed musings only make the film seem more like an accomplished home movie than a serious documentary.
