I just think most people were burned out by the time pacific rim came around. Its the only movie that really fits the argument. I hear ripd sucks so i dont think its a good comparison.
The summer season now starts in May and several years ago this wasnt the case. I remember when the summer movie was july 4th. Now releasing at the time can be somewhat risky as ticket prices have gone up and there are only so many dollars to go around

The competition is the reason why we're seeing the opposite of what the article is predicting. Summer isn't becoming like the rest of the year, the rest of the year is becoming like summer.
March, for example, used to be one of the weaker months of the year. Now, however, it's been home to several massive blockbusters. We're also seeing studios slowly trying to extend the summer season by placing big films in April and August. Next year we're getting Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuting at the beginning of April, and I suspect other films will soon follow suit, meaning the entire period from March to August could become blockbuster period.
