The prospect of a zombie apocalypse film by veteran arthouse filmmaker Jim Jarmusch sounds almost too enticing. Regrettably, the execution just doesn't do justice to the concept.

As a satirical statement on consumerism, the film never earns its political jabs either.
September 24, 2019
Life's far too valuable to waste on underwhelming cinema such as this.
September 12, 2019
The slow pacing and a lack of wit and pith does in the proceedings.
August 15, 2019
The deadpan performances and laid-back aesthetic are just as Jarmuschian as you might hope, but the writing feels lazy and the film lacks the necessary bite.
August 14, 2019
Jim Jarmusch's latest film doesn't end well at all. In fact, the white-haired hipster has created something close to a painfully self-aware groaner that stumbles in a semi-conscious daze from start to finish.
August 2, 2019
Jim Jarmusch's movies are always laconic, but this one felt less like a bunch of old friends hanging out and more like old friends dutifully showing up to do one of them a half-hearted favor.

If Jarmusch is bringing together the people he loves, it's evidently to say goodbye. The world comes to an end in this zombie-movie mash-up, and so does his filmmaking, which disappears up its own meta.
July 18, 2019
Jarmusch lands some good jokes and the film as a whole is laced with an absurd sense of detached humor, but there is literally nothing about the film that someone else hasn't already done better.
July 17, 2019
This could almost be a stoner comedy, except there are no drugs, no jokes and not enough weirdness.
July 16, 2019
Maybe the ambience and irony are enough for diehard Jarmusch fans. But for everyone else, life's too short.
July 15, 2019
Some sort of anti-Trump satire may be intended here but it's neither clever enough nor funny enough.
July 14, 2019
This is a testing experience even for people who loved the deadly ennui of Only Lovers Left Alive, Jarmusch's take on the vampire movie and in some ways a sister picture to this one.
July 14, 2019
A self-indulgent one joke act of prolonged masturbation.
July 13, 2019
The Dead Don't Die, instead, stomps in like your drunken uncle at a wedding disco and announces that it's here, and that everything's fine because it's going to have a lot of fun at the zombie movie's expense. If only.
July 12, 2019
Where his previous outing Paterson (2016) was low on plot but cinematically rich on the lips, Dead Don't Die is a film attempting subversion, yet suffering from identity crisis. Jarmusch says it best when he says nothing at all.
July 12, 2019
It goes to show that even a packed cast cannot carry a movie unaided, though Tilda Swinton's Scottish undertaker comes close.
July 10, 2019
The appeal of the film's practised and deliberate amateurism is exhausted fairly quickly.
July 3, 2019
The Dead Don't Die is a film that doesn't know what it wants to be. While clearly wanting to make its mark in the zombie genre, there are questions of whether the initial feel of the film was lost in a sea of influences.
July 2, 2019
All the elements are there for a fun zombie spoof, but it plods along as much as its undead. Lining up a star studded cast does not indicate entertainment value.
