Aside from Louis' demise, little happens aside from the fretting of charlatan doctors and hand-wringing of courtly devotees. Jean-Pierre Laud's star performance is masterful, but cannot breathe life into this exquisite corpse.

Veering between sumptuously painterly and watching paint dry. While throughout the interminable running time bedside vigil, the characters displaying far greater endurance than we do within this extreme reality check-free zone ordeal, is not a good sign.
